Earth, originally from Seattle, visited
the South Hemisphere a few weeks ago and will embark on a new tour within the next
few weeks, crossing Europe and most of the States to present their new album ‘Primitive
and Deadly’.
Earth belongs to a very niche and
purist instrumental noise-metal, post-rock with a loyal following. Their music
is determined by Dylan Carlson’s powerful and extremely defined guitar riffs
that build up the structure of the song ad loop for a few minutes, adding
details and elements of variation that enrich the listening experience, while the
solid rhythm section of the band keeps the audience in a sort of trance that
last –in some cases- for a few songs or good fifteen minutes..
Good musicianship combined with a
admirable simplicity on stage will be a quite accurate summary of their shows.
They stand up for a very specific vision of what music should be. It may not be
the most mainstream style -and it may never be-, however they do what they do,
and they do it extremely well.
Whether you belong to their loyal
following or not, their music is worth a good listen, perhaps swinging by one
of their shows and experiencing an hour of getting lost in the many shades,
hints, and hues that guitar riff can breathe out.
