On Thursday night I swang by the
Toff in Town with my friends Ross to see a very young artist, that came finalist
in the song writing competition for young artists in Nashville and the New York
independent music awards and performed at SXSW in 2013. On her first time at this Melbourne institution, Bec
Laughton found herself with the challenge of a half full venue, but
nevertheless she performed as if it was a sold-out show, and complemented it with
a bit of improvisation, TV cartoon tunes and some side-entertainment from a few
of her friends that came down to Curtin House on the night.
The show was pretty intimate and
Bec delivered. It was a great show, some songs were great radio hits and I only wished I could have seen a bit
more of the show-off glamour that she portrayed during the USA tour. The back-up band
was extremely talented, specially a really young guitar player and a
jazz-influenced bassist that were helping Bec grooving the night.
We had a drink, took some good
photos and Ross ended buying a CD, so I can say we had a really good time. We are
really looking forward to see the next exciting projects from Bec Laughton, and
the way her career evolves over the next few years.
Thanks for reading.
