It has taken me a while to write
this entry and get on top of my regular blog posting. True is, with
assignments, commitments, work and a lot of shows happening in town, there has
been hardly any time to dedicate to my beloved regular audience.
A couple of weeks ago, there were
a bunch of shows in town due to the most famous festival in Australia, Splendor
in the Grass. Deap Vally was one of the
shows I really wanted to cover and I was not disappointed: the young duo from
LA had quite a lot of character. A small venue (where so many bands have played
over the years that you can see the marks of duct tape covering the stage) with
just two young girls on stage, projecting a fun and a careless attitude towards
a crowd that seemed to be well aware of who they were and what their jokes were
about.
Keeping the cool, having fun, a
few sips of Jack Daniels here and there, a guitar pedal missing somewhere on
backstage, a few knobs falling off the drum kit, and a very successful crowd surfing
attempt were some of the ingredients of a really fun night.
The fuzzy guitar –Lindsey even
pulled out some mellow slide in one of the last songs- and the never-ending
beat kept the audience head banging mesmerized
for every single minute. There was even some poet-like cameo appearance and a
couple of love declarations during the soiree too.
A very fine show I must say.
Thanks for reading.
