Brisbane band ‘Hungry Kids of Hungary’ is one
of those bands that I have heard of for a few years but never really had the
chance to go see live. In my opinion they have a bit of ‘The Rentals’ -that
by-product of 'Weezer' that Matt Sharp put together when he couldn´t stand ‘River Cuomo’ anymore-, the Shins (listen to Scattered Diamonds!), 'the Kooks'…
and a few more things. Maybe the fact that one of the band members spent some
time in England has something to do with this.
But don´t get me wrong: they are good. The key
is that they manage to combine all this influences pretty well and get a nice clean
and catchy sound that is easy to listen and –judge by yourself looking at the
first row of attendants at the Northcote Social Club- appeals girls without annoying
us guys. Have a listen if you don´t
believe me!
I miss the last two songs cos my friends were
getting really tired and we had a busy day, but it was a really great gig to watch on the Melbourne
Cup eve.
The opening band -'Gung Ho'- goes in Black and White this time.
This is just me... being nostalgic of the good old days in the darkroom developing ILFORD HP5
and Kodak T-MAX 400.
Thanks for reading.
