After interviewing Brian, I was more than curious to
see the what the band would be like at the Corner Hotel. The opening band,
Eagle Twin managed to put the audience in right head space for what was about
to come.
The stage arrangement was pretty bare: no
lighting, a couple for light bulbs next to the amplifiers and the pedal boards,
just so the musicians would not bump into anything. In pitch dark, I could hear
the characteristic bass sound from Brian, looped, distorted and down sampled
with some sort of sound effect, setting a background for the band play.
Guitar on the right hand side of the stage,
bass on the left, and drum in the middle with one of those vintage light bulbs
above his head. I could hardly see the musician faces and, somehow the
combination of darkness and the cloudy sound of their last album, Empros, set
the me in a mesmerized state. Their post rock-hardcore sound was really
refined, no interludes, just hypnotic sound hiatus that interlaced track with
track and, before we realized, it was already 1AM.
One of the best gigs this year. Thanks for
reading.
